Evening Wear Tips

  • You do not need to spend thousands of dollars to get a pageant winning dress. Search ebay or your local mall for sales. If it is elegant, sparkels on stage, and makes you feel like a winner, then it could be your winning gown.

  • When you are on stage, keep your walk slow and elegant during this portion of the competition. Remember, at this point the judges will be able to see who that sparkling crown will fit best.

  • Do not fuss with a lot of jewelry. A large pair of rhinestone earrings can be all you need. Try a local costume jewelry store, you will be surprised how cheap some of them are for beautiful earrings in a different variety of colors to help accomodate the color of your dress.

  • Make sure your evening gown fits perfectly. This sometimes means waiting until a month or two before the compeition to buy the dress because if you lose or gain weight in the meantime, it may not fit right and you do not want to find that out two weeks before the pageant.

  • Your eveing gown should not look too much like a typical high school prom dress. Look at the type of dresses Miss America contestants wear. They are elegant, ofther with long trains, and they have at least a touch of sparkle. You can find these gowns among the many prom-type gowns but it can take a lot of searching to find the perfect one. I have used Jessica Mclinktock dresses for many occasions and have kept a good chunk of change in my wallet.

  • If you truly do not feel like a winner, go out and buy a plastic crown and wear it while you practice your evening gown walk. It seems goofy, but it can be a true confidence booster.

  • If your dress has a train make sure you practice walking in heels and not looking down. It is important to remember that while on stage you will need to focus on the judges while keeping your balance.
